Akua Pakua |

Akua’s mother died when she was a few hours old. Akua has just been diagnosed with TB; a disease which is on the rise in Ghana. She is six months of age. |

Calvin is five years of age and deaf. He was found living with his grandmother in a wooden box outside the railway station. |

Christopher is a Liberian refugee. Beatings from guerilla soldiers left him disabled from the waist up. He is unable to speak properly. He has learned to use his feet as hands. Here you see him eating his food. |

Emmanuel was abandoned at the old railway station in the mining town of Obuasi. He was about 18 months old at the time. |

Ester and her cousin Animah have been in Adullam for six years. Their parents all died from malnutrition due to poverty. Ester was also found near death. |

Frank’s father died 3 years ago. The mother wonders off, sometimes for weeks at a time, leaving Frank to beg on the streets for food. He knocked on the door of Adullam asking for food and decided to stay. |

Frederick was found begging in Obuasi. He is unable to speak because he has no tongue. He can hear and is now learning sign language as a means of communication. |

Joseph was abandoned at approximately five months of age. He is a now a healthy, happy, playful little boy. |

Michael was brought to Adullam when he was six hours old. His single mother died due to an infection after she gave birth. Michael is now six years old and quite a livewire as you can see. |

|
Nat was brought to Adullam having been severely beaten many times by his mentally challenged mother. We had to arrange for one of the older boys to feed and bath him as the sight of women made him scream and pull so hard on his ears they would bleed. |

Pascal |
|
Pascal was born a paraplegic. His father died a year ago and his 29 year-old widow mother is using what little money she has to put herself through school. For the meantime he is with us. |

Toddler Room |
|
Thirty-four children between the age of two and five are cared for by a team of five women in the toddler’s room. Each woman does a weeklong night shift once every five weeks. |
